There are six radio commercials on your practice audio cassette. They are not 'made up' spots. They are commercials that have been produced and played on the air. Each radio spot starts off with direction from me. Immediately following the spot is the version that was actually heard on the radio. I did that so you could hear the final spot using the professional voice-over.
These six TV spots are also the real thing! You might even recognize some of them. By the way, in addition to practicing straight announce pieces, you'll have a chance to try out some of those character voices you've been itching to play around with!
Just the way a surgeon needs a scalpel, the stop watch is an essential tool for the voice-over actor. Performing to time is a must.
I consider this to be probably the most important element of The Learning Package. It's a unique opportunity to get an educated, honest evaluation of your potential, based on my years of writing, casting, producing and directing radio and television commercials. It's a chance to find out directly from me, if you have the knack for voice-overs. Because it is a knack - you're born with it.
Here's how it works; when you've read or listened to the book and you've worked through the audio and video practice tapes to to where you feel comfortable, pick any one of the radio or TV scripts and record your version on side one of the audition cassette. Play it back and make sure that you are reasonably confident (no one is ever 100% sure!) that it is a good representation of how you hear and interpret the copy. Rewind the tape, put it in the self-mailer, add the appropriate postage and send it to me. Within four to six weeks you will receive my personal evaluation of your commercial potential, recorded on side two of the same cassette. And, if applicable, I will include what I think you next steps should be, based on the market in which you live.
